Choosing the Right Toilet for Your Bathroom

April 20th, 2008 staff Posted in Bathroom No Comments »

Looks is only one of the things to take into consideration when choosing the right toilet for your bathroom. When it comes to choosing a commode, size, height and how well it functions are some of the other things to think about.

Commodes come in a variety of shapes and sizes but a rough-in distance, which measures the distance from the finished wall to the center of the sewer drain for the toilet, will narrow the field. The standard rough-in is 12 inches, and the widest selection of toilets is available in this size. If a bathroom remodel makes use of an existing rough-in that is another size, 10 or 14 inches for example, choices can be more limited.

Shower Curtains Basics

April 16th, 2008 staff Posted in Bathroom No Comments »

It can be hard to relax in the tub when your bathroom is in disarray. Sure, shower curtains serve a practical function by keeping water off the floor, but shower curtains are also essential to the design, motif, and the general “feel” of your bathroom. The shower curtain you have will likely stand out more than anything else in your bathroom- so choose your shower curtains wisely.

A shower curtain can add a pop of color where there is no color and a sense of design where people sometimes don’t think to add a sense of design. One of the best ways to start a theme for your bathroom is choosing a great shower curtain. Shower curtains are often the center point of a bathroom. Shower curtains come in a wide variety of fabric, pattern and styles to compliment the design of your bathroom or home. These range from simple, elegant designs to unique and unusual colors and patterns. Replacing the curtain is the easiest and cheapest way to redecorate your bathroom. Choose your material and then select matching accessories to match the bathroom and furniture.

A Bathroom That Lets Kids Do-It-Yourself

April 13th, 2008 staff Posted in Bathroom No Comments »

Designing a children’s bath means more than just fun decor. Use technology to turn a child-challenged bathroom into one that encourages children to be independent. Potty training is the first step in a toddler’s burgeoning independence. “I can do it myself” becomes a favorite phrase with the pre-school set and with a few simple tweaks done by a professional or do-it-yourselfer with plumbing and wiring knowledge, a bathroom can become accessible to the littlest users.

Let there be light. As light switches are several feet off the floor, it is out of reach for the little ones. The child- friendly solution will be a motion sensor with an adjustable timer lighting. The sensor would detect movement when somebody will enter the bathroom and turn the light on automatically and an adjustable timer would keep the light on anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes depending on the family’s preference. An override would allow the light to operate conventionally if desired.

The World of Microfiber Towels

April 12th, 2008 staff Posted in Bathroom No Comments »

Microfiber is fiber with strands less than one denier and is a blend of 80/20 ratio of polyester and polyamide. Fabrics made with microfibers are exceptionally soft and hold their shape well. When high quality microfiber is combined with the right knitting process, it creates an extremely effective cleaning material. This material can hold up to seven times its weight in water. They are also used for some cleaning applications, because of their exceptional ability to absorb oils.

Microfiber has been used in many applications. Microfiber performance apparel has become a very popular alternative to cotton apparel for athletic wear, such as cycling jerseys because the microfiber material wicks moisture away from the body, keeping the athlete cool and dry. Microfibers were also used in the military and for many federal agencies because it allows for more rapid drying of the soldiers and less skin irritation due to moisture.

Choosing the Right Whirlpool

April 10th, 2008 staff Posted in Bathroom No Comments »

Easing into warm water, relaxing as the jets pulse, envisioning it all right in your very own master bath- that is the fun part about choosing a whirlpool for your bathroom. But this should be the last step in choosing and buying a whirlpool. Before you run out and buy a new whirlpool for your bathroom, there are many important questions to ask yourself to avoid expensive mistakes. The following questions should guide you in choosing just the right one for you.

What will fit? Make sure that you measure your bathroom carefully, including any space you might gain taking down dividing walls or showers. Most whirlpools come in three standard sizes. These are five feet, five and a half feet and six feet. But you can’t just consider the tub size because they are all designed to be dropped into a deck and that will take up more space, with the bare minimum adding at least a half-inch to your measurements on all sides. If you think you would like to hold a lot of stuff like candles and oils near the water, you will also need extra space on the deck. If you are over six feet tall, you may want to forfeit deck space for more tub room.

Decorating Kid’s Bathroom

April 10th, 2008 staff Posted in Bathroom No Comments »

Kids always start and end their day at the bathroom. Giving it a good vibe with kid-friendly decor is important. However, decorating a child’s bathroom is not all about fun, you want it to be functional, too. Making it easy for your kids to keep their bathroom tidy is an added bonus.

Since most bathrooms are small, wall murals will be perfect for it. A lively shade is all that is needed to bring the bathroom walls to life. If you are going for a theme, it will naturally dictate the color you choose. For example, turquoise will be perfect for an underwater scheme, a sky fantasy bathroom might have walls painted robin’s egg blue and a soft green makes the perfect backdrop for a jungle-themed bathroom. Stencils and vinyl decals let you add character to the walls, while a peppy-printed shower curtain pulls the whole look together.
