Creative and Inexpensive Headboard Ideas

April 22nd, 2008 staff Posted in Bedroom No Comments »

Headboards are nice and can add elegance to your bedroom. You don’t have to bust your bank account just to buy a nice headboard. You can create your own unique headboard that is not only stylish and creative but inexpensive too. The following are some ideas on how to create your own stylish headboard:

1. Make use of that old door that is lying in your garage. Sand and stain the door to have a classic look and to match it with existing furniture. You can also paint the door and create a distressed look. If the door is paneled, the inserts can be painted a contrasting color, stenciled with elegant designs, or decoupage with fabric or handmade papers.

2. Use a section of wooden picket or wrought iron fencing. Paint the sections and secure with bolts or hooks.

3. Use a plant trellis. Paint it and decorate with ivy, silk flowers, ribbons or anything that you want to hang like pictures of the family.

Storage Space for Kids’ Stuff

April 21st, 2008 staff Posted in Bedroom No Comments »

A child is a joy to have but along with the bundle of joy is a lot of baggage and you have to find places to store all his stuff. As you’re preparing a room for a newborn or redecorating for a growing child, finding storage space is just as important as choosing the right color paint or bedding. As your child grows, he will accumulate a lot of things and these things will need an awful lot of storage space.

Out in the open
Lots of things that your child uses can be stored on shelves, book shelves, hang on hooks or on containers on a desk or table. To keep things looking neat and orderly, keep books neatly arranged, games in boxes, or toys hanging on pegs on the wall. You can also place smaller items into coordinated baskets or plastic boxes for a neat look on open shelves.

Out of sight but close at hand
For things that just cannot be made to look neat, use shelves or a chest of drawers in a closet, arrange boxes in an armoire, or slide things in shallow boxes under the bed. Stacks of clothes, hobby supplies, school bags can easily be hidden behind doors, but remain convenient and ready at any time. For the ultimate organization, use boxes, files, or storage baskets to keep things organized.

Themed Bedrooms for Kids

April 19th, 2008 staff Posted in Bedroom No Comments »

Design your child’s bedroom can be a lot of fun but should not only be seen by the child as a place to sleep and rest but will also stimulate him and spark his creativity. The following are some children’s bedroom theme that will surely wow your child as well as inspire him.

1. Library in the clouds
For children who love to keep their noses buried in books, room will be heaven. As parents of little bookworms know, book collections often outgrow their bookshelves. The solution is to have storage spaces and shelves that are multi-functional to store the child’s books as well as his toys. You can paint the walls and ceiling with cloud murals for added effect. Oversized floor pillows and window seat create cozy reading nooks where a child can dive solo into her favorite story or cuddle up with a parent for some quality reading time.

2. Under the sea
Your little marine enthusiast will treasure this under-the-sea adventure room, complete with a gnarly surfing headboard and a treasure-chest bed. But the children’s room mural is the star of the show in this water wonderland. When a child walks in the room and shuts his door, he feels, literally, like he’s underwater. The captain’s bed hides a wealth of booty inside.

Luxurious and Comfortable Bed Pillow

April 9th, 2008 staff Posted in Bedroom No Comments »

One of the requirements for a good night’s sleep is a good pillow. A good pillow can make a poor mattress tolerable while a terrible pillow can even make a good mattress feel inadequate. The good news is that quality bed pillows are relatively inexpensive purchase compared to the other furnishings for the bedroom.

Many experts recommend replacing foam and synthetic pillows every one to two years, while a good down filled pillow can last five to ten years. These estimates vary depending on the quality of the pillow and how frequently it is used. You have to buy new pillows if:

  • Your down pillow is over five years old
  • Your synthetic pillow is more than a year old
  • Your pillow feels uncomfortable
  • You wake up with knots in your shoulders or neck
  • Your current pillow is already lumpy, flat, misshapen

Bifold Closet Door

April 4th, 2008 staff Posted in Bedroom No Comments »

Bifold closet doors are a space saver and allow you access to your entire closet. It is designed to fold outwards much like an accordion. Often these doors are made of two panels which are connected together by hinges and it is these hinges which allow the door to fold outwards. It can be custom made to fit any closet size.

There are some situations where a bifold closet door would be much more effective to use. These doors are good for exceptionally large closets like those that stretch the whole length of a room. With bifold doors you are able to easily gain access to all corners of the closet space as compared to using sliding closet doors. Another situation in which you may want to utilize bifold closet doors is if you have a small space in which to fully open the closet door. Closet Organizing Ideas

March 23rd, 2008 staff Posted in Bedroom No Comments »

It is about time to say good bye to your cluttered closets! There is nothing more tiring and irritating than searching through your closet for something that you know is in there but can not find it because of all the jumbled things inside. Despair no more because the following is a guide on how to have an organized closet.

Before beginning your organizing, sort out the things in your closet first. Discard, give away or sell the items that you no longer need. A general rule is if you have not worn it in two years, then get rid of it. You can then sort the remaining items into blouses, slacks, jackets, skirts and others. Divide them further into color, dressy, casual and others. Determine which items can be folded and which ones will be hanged. If possible, seasonal clothing should be stored in a separate closet.
