Dishware is the general term used for dishes used in serving and eating food. Dishwares may be made of earthenware, stoneware, porcelain, glass, wood, metals like pewter and durable plastics like melamine resin. Disposable dishes made of paper or lightweight plastics may be used for casual eating or take outs.
Dishware consists of plates, bowls, teacups, saucers, mugs and serving dishes.

Plates
A plate is a type of dishware, being a broad, concave but mainly flat vessel on which food is served. Plates are commonly made from ceramic materials such as bone china, porcelain and stoneware as well as other materials like plastic or glass; occasionally, wood or carved stone is used. Disposable plates are often made from paper. Plates for serving food come in a variety of sizes, from small saucers, to bread and butter plates, to dinner plates, to large platters from which food for several people may be distributed at table. Some plates are made as decorative items for display rather than used for food.

April 15th, 2008 staff Posted in Dining No Comments »

As its name suggest, tablecloth is a cloth which is used to cover a table. Typically, tablecloths are made from cotton or nowadays, artificial fabrics. They are designed to be easy to wipe clean. Tablecloths that are expensive are made from silk, linen or lace.

While many table cloths are meant to protect the table from being stained or scratched, they may also be used purely for decorative purposes. They can be hanging near two ends vertically over two parallel edges of the table or hang mostly vertical along all four edges of the table, with bunched folds hanging at the four corners of the table.

Decorative sterling silver and silver plated wares can add beauty and elegance to a table or buffet setting. But what about those beautiful candlesticks, serving trays and chafing dishes? Won’t they just tarnish and become a burden that you will never use? Silver or silver plated items are meant to be used. With regular and proper care, most silver pieces will stay beautiful for years and years so you can enjoy them for holiday gatherings, bridal showers, and other occasions where you want to dress up the table for your guests.

Many people shy away from collecting and using sterling and silver plated wares due to fear of tarnishing. What they do not realize is that they can do something to avoid it. So, what is the most common culprit when it comes to tarnishing silver? The easy answer is humidity. The ideal level of humidity for storing and displaying silver is 45 to 50 percent. However, since we do not live in museums, it is not possible to maintain a constant humidity level. Make an effort to keep silver out of unusually damp environments like attics and basements especially if you live in a damp climate.
