18/10 steel cookware
On many products you will see a marking “18-10″ either by etching or by deep stamp marking. This indicates the type of steel the product is made of known as “Chrome-Nickel”steel. The composition/content of steel must be within the tolerances according to European standards, where 18(%) indicates the percentage of Chromium and 10(%) the percentage of Nickel. A good combination of the advantage of Chrome (corrosion resistance) and the brightness of Nickel. The qualities of 18/10 steel ensure that products are not prone to corrosion and have a high sheen specially when care instructions are followed properly.

Quick Utensils and Equipments Cleaning Tips

  • Rub down wooden cutting boards with a few drops of oil to preserve it and to prevent food from sticking to it.
  • Place a cushioned mesh under the cutting board to prevent it from moving around when in use.
  • Soak new wooden utensils overnight in white vinegar to prevent it from absorbing food odors.
  • Place metal stainers and sifters in a warm oven for two minutes to quick dry them.
  • Cutting through a steel wool will help sharpen kitchen shears and scissors.
  • To prevent food from sticking to a new frying pan, boil a little vinegar in it first.
  • Never use metal utensils when cooking with non-stick cookware because it will scratch the surface. Use plastic or wooden utensils instead.
  • Place protective sheets like cardboards, paper towels, paper plates and even bubble wrap between non-stick pans when stacking it to prevent scratching.
  • To clean splatters inside the microwave oven, boil a cup of water for a couple of minutes then let it set for a while to allow condensation to form. The condensation will soften the food splatters and will help cleaning it up easy.
  • Periodically check the accuracy of your kitchen scale.
  • Rub cutting boards with lemon or lime to get rid of food smells.
  • Soaking cookware in baking soda and water for at least ten minutes will loosen up stuck-on food.
  • Rub copperwares with lemon sprinkled with salt to make them shine. For stainless steel, rub with lemon peel to make it shiny.
  • Darkened aluminum cookware can be cleaned by boiling a quart of water with two teaspoons of cream of tartar for ten minutes.
  • Sprinkle flour over grease and oil spills for an easy clean up.
  • Place stained plasticwares in a gallon of warm water with a cup of bleach and soak for 20 minutes then wash as usual.
  • Running a piece of bread through your meat grinder will get rid of the stucked meat.
  • Place an open box of baking soda inside the ref to absorb food odors and replace it periodically.
