Choosing Bed Linens: Things to consider
There are a lot of factors to take into consideration in choosing your bed linens. You should think twice before buying because bed linens don’t come cheap and more importantly, good bed linens will offer you a good night’s rest. Here are some points to consider before buying:
1. Size
The first thing to do is measure your mattress to be absolutely sure what size of sheets you will need. This means measuring the width and the length. You should also take note if you have a pillow top mattress because you will require sheets with deep pockets. Size also matters in this instance due to the fact that the bigger the mattress, the more expensive the sheet will be.
2. Thread count
Thread count is the number of horizontal and vertical threads in one square inch of fabric. The higher the thread count, the softer and smoother the bedding will be and the more expensive it is. High thread count sheets are also more durable than low thread count sheets. The thread count can be found in the sheets packaging for easy reference and if not, you can always ask the sales assistance. The thread count usually starts from around eighty and can reach up to 700 and even 1,000. If the linen has a thread count of 100 or above, this is called “percale.” Percale linen is a fine, closely woven cotton fabric.
3. Amount
For practicality, it is important to purchase more that one set of beddings so that you will be able to rotate in using the sheets and also for emergency in case of visitors.
4. Color and style
Again for practicability, it is advisable to choose a style and color that you like. Take note also of your bedroom overall theme because you will want to create an environment that is contusive to rest and relaxation. Besides, it will be too costly to keep on changing your bedding.
5. Material
You will need to pay attention to the material of the beddings because of the changing seasons and temperature. Fleece and flannel will be much appreciated during cold winter days and cotton will be appropriate for the summer months. However, many will opt for a cotton blend for its wrinkle resistant property and if you’re willing to shell out some extra cash, silk or satin will be a good choice.
