Often times, we forgot to clean the gutter until the rain water’s everywhere including the basement. Needless to say, a clean gutter will save you from more serious problems like molds growing in the basement due to water seepage. The following are some quick and easy tips to maintain a clean gutter.

• Always make sure that your gutters are debris-free. Clogged gutters will make rain water overflow that will in turn rot the facia board. Overflow water also might seep into your basement causing another problem including molds and mildew. Twice yearly cleaning will do the trick.
• Install gutter guards. This will keep the debris from getting inside the gutter thereby clogging it. There are inexpensive gutter guards to choose from and there are also costly systems like Gutter Helmet.
• Be extra careful when leaning your ladder against the gutters as this might break or collapse it.
• Make sure to inspect the supports and nails that hold the gutter in place. Replace them as needed.
• Install downspouts and make sure that the water flows well away from the house.
