As sinks are made of different materials their cleaning process also differs from sink to sink. Sink is used for various purposes in different areas, depending on the use, the cleaning method also changes. The following is a simple guide as to how different sinks are to be cleaned.
Stone Sinks
There are two most common stone that are made into sinks, granite and marble. Because stone sinks are porous, it easily get stained and absorbs and retains fluids below its surface. It is necessary to wipe any fluid that remains on the stone sinks as early as possible because longer exposure to staining fluids causes deeper penetration of the stain and the staining will become permanent and difficult to remove.
Granite sinks can be cleaned by scrubbing with a soft brush using soap solution. For persistent stains, dish washer liquid or diluted bleach solution is recommended. Strong alkalis such as ammonia should not be used to clear the blocks in granite sinks. Rust stains caused by iron particles can be successfully removed using a cleaner which contain mild acid.
Marble sinks are a little difficult to clean. Marble sinks requires sealing to prevent fluid from absorbing into the sink. For regular cleaning, use soft cleaning liquid that contains mild bleach or detergent. Care should be taken to prevent marble sinks from coming into contact with acidic solutions because it will eat up the stone. Marble sinks should be rinsed and dried after each use to prevent water spots. If, your marble sink has the problem of etching and water spots it is better to get it re -polished and re-finished by a professional.
Copper Sinks
Copper sinks are easy to maintain. Regular cleaning with mild soap and rinsing with water is all you have to do to keep your copper sink clean. Copper cleaners can be used to attain the shiny appearance. Copper will gain patina as it ages but application of wax at regular intervals will slow down the process.
