As its name suggest, tablecloth is a cloth which is used to cover a table. Typically, tablecloths are made from cotton or nowadays, artificial fabrics. They are designed to be easy to wipe clean. Tablecloths that are expensive are made from silk, linen or lace.

While many table cloths are meant to protect the table from being stained or scratched, they may also be used purely for decorative purposes. They can be hanging near two ends vertically over two parallel edges of the table or hang mostly vertical along all four edges of the table, with bunched folds hanging at the four corners of the table.

How to choose the right tablecloth that will meet your needs? The first step is to select a material. Vinyl tablecloths are low maintenance and wipe clean easily. Fabric tablecloths can be machine washed and dried and offer excellent color, size and shape retention. The second step is to choose a pattern. There are mnay patterns to choose from. The patterns on the tablecloth should be in harmony with the entire look of the dining room. Depending on the material that you choose, you can select the pattern that is appropriate with the material. Next step is to select a color.  Color creates the mood. Choose soft pastel colors for a quiet, relaxing setting or bold jewel tones to generate excitement. Tablecloths can also be color coordinated to match existing décor and tableware. For a dramatic look, choose colors and patterns that provide an interesting contrast to existing décor and tableware. The last step is to determine the right tablecloth size. Remember that an 8 inches drop is recommended on all four sides of the table. For rectangular or square tables, add 16″ to the width and depth of the table. For round tables, add 16″ to the diameter of the table. For booth tables, add 16″ to the depth and 8″ to the width of the table.  A quick guide is to know the shape of your table and then figure out the number of seats your table can fit. When in doubt, pick a larger size because it is much better to have a longer tablecloth than a shorter one.
