Maximizing Space

If you have a small space to live in, you can do many things to make your space bigger. Here are some ideas on how to do it:

1. Keep furnitures to a minimum. Opt for non-bulky furniture and appliances, like a laptop instead of a desktop or a floor fan instead of a stand fan.

2. If the ceiling is low, keep your furnitures also low- low sofas, coffee table, entertainment shelf and others. This simulates and creates a feeling of a higher ceiling.

3. Use white or off-white on the walls, adding accent color on just one or a couple of walls. Light colors tend to make the space look bigger. Paint the ceiling in the same color as the walls to create a flowing appearance.

4. If storage space is needed, make built-in cabinets with floor-to-ceiling doors. You can also use the ledges for storage and shelving as well as the bottom part of sofas, beds and cabinets. Plastic bins stored under the bed or stacked on top of one another is another storage option.

5. Floor-to-ceiling mirrors on the walls will give an illusion of a bigger space.

6. Hang your TV and entertainment system. It can be mounted on the wall.

7. Sliding doors will save a lot of space.

8. Make spaces multifunctional. Your dining room can also double as your work area.
