Maybe you thought it is high time for you to change the outdoor color of your house, then the following things can help you:
1. Government restrictions
Check with your local building and planning department for guidelines. Codes governing exterior house colors may be in place. This particularly applies in historic districts or redevelopment areas.
2. Homeowner associations
Most homeowner associations have guidelines on what you you can do. It is better to check them out first before you choose the color.
3. Sample first
Before painting the whole house, apply sample patches first. The colors of the paints will take on different shades according to the texture of the surface and the time of day.
4. Fading potential
Dark colors tend to fade faster than light colors. Dark colors absorbs more heat than lighter colors.
5. Live with the color for a week or two
Try the color in a sunny spot and a shady spot. Colors are also different after they are thoroughly dry from when they are not.
6. Run it by your neighbors
This will usually apply specially if you are planning to change the paint color radically. There’s no sense in stirring up trouble over a color when there are many to those from.
