Ridding Your House of Molds

Mold is a form of fungus that can easily grow on the walls of your home, if given the right conditions. Molds thrive on cellulose based material such as wooden cupboards, wall paper and other organis materials. Molds thrives in damp and dark areas. Contributing factors to mold growth are water leakage, floods and high levels of humidity. When you notice a mildewed stench in your home or some member of your family is suffering from mold toxin symptoms like allergic rhinitis and sinus problems, then mold presence should be checked.

If you choose to do the job yourself, then make sure that you:

  • Wear protective gear like long sleeved shirt and a mask to cover your nose and mouth.

  • Remove all food items from the room and store it covered.
  • Throw away all materials that you used in cleaning.
  • The mold and the materials infested with molds should be placed into plastic bags that are heavy duty and should be discarded properly.
  • Use disinfectant for killing the mold spores and the surfaces should be cleaned properly as the mold spores are very minute and can spread easily.
  • The dust should be minimized while cleaning and killing the mold spores as dust in the air serves as a chief means of mold spores transportation

Molds are nasty house guests and should be get rid of immediately and your primary weapon is prevention. Because molds trive in damp and humid areas, make sure that there is a healthy breeze in your home especially on warm sunny days. The stirring wind have the effect of dehydrating by reducing the humidity. It is also wise to check your home from time to time because early detection and eradication is the key for a mold-free home.
