Shower curtains are the largest item in our bathrooms. It creates the ambiance for ralaxation and cleanliness. Presently, there are so many options to choose from, it can be plastic, vinyl or even fabric. They also come in various colors and designs.
But if your shower curtains are dirty, it can give you a dreary feeling. So here are some tried and tested cleaning tips to apply:
For plastic and vinyl shower curtains
- Remove the shower curtain from its hooks.
- Lay the curtain on a flat surface outside.
- Rinse using a garden hose.
- Scrub the curtain with a sponge and mixture of diluted bleach, using one quart of water for every cup of bleach or you may use a laundry pre-wash spray.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Repeat on other side.
- Hang the curtains in the bath as normal and allow them to drip dry.
Do not wash and dry your plastic and vinyl shower curtains in the washing machine on hot setting because it will melt!
For fabric shower curtains
Fabric shower curtains cab be washed in the washing machine with a cup of baking soda and a regular amount of detergent. To remove any mildew or mold, wash fabric shower curtains in hot soapy water with just a little amount of bleach or color-safe bleach for colored fabric. Soak fabric curtains in a salt-water solution to prevent molding, but only use a small amount of salt to prevent crystals from forming on your curtains.
