What is Peached fabric?
Peached fabric is so called because it looks hairy like the fur on a peach if looked under a microscope. Peaching is a process that involves sanding the fabric by dipping it in chemical compounds then stretched out to dry. Once the fabric is dried, it is then brushed manually or mechanically. Mechanical brushing uses rollers with abrasive bristles, similar in appearance to a toothbrush, are brushed across the fabric. Small fibers on the surface of the fabric breaks and then it is teased out which will create the peached appearance and feel of a sanded fabric. Just about any type of fiber can be peached but natural ones are best suited.
Peached fabric can also be created by the use of chemical abrasion wherein chemical compounds are used to break down the fibers rather than sanding it with britles. Laundry abrasion is also another way of producing peached fabric where the motion within the laundering process creates the break in the outside fibers and helps to produce the soft feel that is associated with peached fabric.
Peached fabric is often made into household textiles such as casual tablecloths, napkins and curtains. When it comes to clothing, peached fabric is an ideal choice for casual shirts, golfing shirts, and undergarments. Peached fabric also comes in a wide variety of color because the peaching process does not take away the ability of the material to absorb and maintain color.
